Opinion: A Canadian Point of View

Compliments of Creative Commons of two ladies waving a Canadian flag, looking at the CN Tower

This is a Canadian guest writer called Andy. What you’re about to read is his sole opinion, however…

Just to clear the air: I’m a conservative, but that doesn’t mean what a lot of you apparently think it does. Let’s break it down, because I’m tired of being told what I believe and what I stand for. Spoiler: not every conservative is the same, but most of us I know share these same principles.

Could the tensions between Canada and the US escalate over trade?

An online question: “Could the tensions between Canada and the United States escalate over trade, resources, and rude insults?”
This feud between two once-good neighbours could turn into something irreparable, if it hasn’t already.

A flag of the United States and Canada’s Maple Leaf flag, with an attached zipper half undone, showing the two nations growing apart.

Let me explain;

In our finest days, the U.S. and Canada were, by definition, joined at the hip; we were that close as nations. We were envied by the world for having the longest undefended border between two friendly countries.

Opinion: Rethinking Canada’s Defense: Submarines vs Innovation

As global tensions rise and NATO allies modernize their fleets, Canada faces pressure to invest in new submarines and upgrade the military, but I have to ask, is that really the smartest move?

In my opinion, ”I will plead my case to you, the reader, whether spending billions on outdated underwater hardware and thinking makes sense in today’s age of drones, AI warfare, and cyber defence.”

Canada’s HMCS Margaret Brooke Docked at Owen Sound, A Bucket List Adventure.

The newspaper article reads: “Canada’s pride, the ‘HMCS Margaret Brooke’ is visiting Owen Sound, Ontario, and will be open for public viewing.”
Well, folks… I’ve been looking for some interesting places to visit and add to my bucket list, and this one fits the bill nicely.

I’ve started a bucket list of places to visit in Canada. Somewhere close to home, and places I’ve never been before. During my research (but not amazement), I discovered there are hundreds of options for interesting day-trippin’ adventures in our area that I’ve not seen.

While reading a newspaper article that mentioned the HMCS ‘Margaret Brooke’, a Canadian Arctic Patrol Ship, was visiting Owen Sound between October 3–5, 2025, I thought, “It’s official, that’s going on my bucket list!”

From a Hobby to Part-time Business: What Else Can Drones Do in 2025

For most people, the original intent of owning and flying a drone was for ‘recreation, taking some nice photos and just having fun.’ What is your long-term agenda? Is it the same?

Drone flying over Banff National Park in British Columbia

This story starts with a family member in Saint John, New Brunswick, who purchased a fairly expensive drone with the intent of ‘recreation and just having fun.’ To his amazement, this part-time flying hobby soon turned into a wanted commodity. ‘But … that wasn’t his original intent!

My Walking Partner’s Name is Mercedes, Like in ‘Mercedes-Benz’.

Among car guys, the popular belief is that ‘Mercedes’ is a German-oriented name and it’s association with high-end cars they build. Well, I hate to break the news to ya, ‘it’s not.’ However, that does explain everything about my walking partner, called Mercedes.

After this intro, that is where my story begins with ‘Mercedes-Benz from Chile.
As I do my usual walkabout through the local park, I have the pleasure of meeting many nice people along the way. Many walkers on these trails come from different parts of the world and from all walks of life. After the usual small talk with fellow health enthusiasts, I often find their life stories quite fascinating.

Canada’s Avro Arrow Story is Old, But You Can Still See a Replica at the Edenvale Aerodrome Museum

After all these years, I had to see what the Avro Arrow looked like

Seeing the Avro Arrow Interceptor up front and personal at the Edenvale Aerodrome Museum is another must-see adventure off my bucket list.

Question most people ask: *** Whatever happened to the Canadian-built Avro Arrow Interceptor from the ’60s? Well, folks, there is little mention of this futuristic plane in any American history library. Most south of the border have never heard of the achievements this plane made to the aerospace industry, and possibly could have achieved more if it had not been cancelled.

Canada’s Retired Submarine at Port Burwell is officially off My Bucket List

Well folks, visiting the HMCS ‘Ojibwa Submarine was another check mark off my bucket list!

HMCS ‘Ojibwa Submarine @ Port Burwell, Ontario

I must explain my intention for this article. At the beginning of the summer, I made up a bucket list of sorts and places to visit in Ontario. The famous Avro Arrow Airplane Museum at Avendale Aerodrome was one, and today, I’ve explored the retired (decommissioned) HMCS ‘Ojibwa.‘A Canadian Cold War submarine, permanently mounted at Port Burwell Elgin Military Museum.’

These are two military adventure museums off my summer bucket list.

But, I also have to mention, my fascination with submarines goes back many years, while vacationing in South Carolina, U.S.A. In our travels through that beautiful state, I came across a sign saying, ‘Patriot Point Naval & Maritime Museum’ pointing in, >>> this way.
