Why Laser Engraving on Hardwood Beats Other Hobbies

The original photo of Waterloo Park Boardwalk, and the other photo is laser-etched in wood.

The photo on the right is the original, in raw form; the one on the left is a professionally laser-engraved version of the original, finely engraved on wood. The etched copy turned out so well that I would consider it more of an art form. than a hobby. And if you didn’t watch out, it could turn into a unique part-time or full-time business for someone?

** Let me explain how this story came about. **

In the featured photo, you’ll find a photograph taken during my regular walk along the local boardwalk in Waterloo Park. The other side of the photo shows a Laser-engraved copy of the same photo nicely engraved on wood. That engraved copy on a rustic-looking wood frame made my original Rembrandt pop even stronger than it was before.

As you read on, this may read like an advertisement of sorts, but in reality, I was impressed by how this professionally looking copy etched in wood would have such a drastic positive impact on my photo.

This ultimately shows that this laser-engraving hobby could turn into a viable business.

This story starts this way.

The warm summer days bring out the fun and excitement of sun worshippers everywhere. Finally, the gray skies and cold of winter days are behind us.

Holidayers from the East go to the West coast for their rest & relaxation (R&R) and the West Coasters go to the East. It’s a maze of excited people moving around Canada looking for interesting sites they’ve never seen before.

We answered a phone call from family in St John’s, NB, saying they’re coming our way for a visit. Oh-ya, my family member says in conversation: I have this new laser machine that I’m dying to profect, and if my hobby works out, I’ll turn it into a business. Which he did.

Send me a photo, “and as we’re coming your way,” I’ll bring you a sample of my work.

As I just came back from the Waterloo park and were proudly showing off its new boardwalk addition, but as luck would have it, as I looked over my photos, it’s no Rembrandt, but this photo will do just fine as I sent it back to him. It’s a photo of a boardwalk leading around the city’s Silver Lake.’ Perfect view of the park from the boardwalk and a nice sunny day.

My family from the East Coast finally arrived, and out came this laser-engraving copy of the original photograph on hardwood, that you see in the featured photo.

He hand-made a rustic-looking frame that positively added to this piece of art.

So folks, I have to tell ya, not only is this laser-etched photo impressive, it has that personal touch from ‘him to me’ that ultimately made it more special.

However, you can’t take away the end result of this product. It’s unique and one of a kind. This laser-etched photo, no doubt, has a personal touch attached; however, as a sales vendor at many craft and antique events. I would not be shy in promoting or selling this product.

  • If you want something unique for a person who has everything, this ‘Laser-engraved photo with a unique wooden frame’ will fit the bill. All you need is a clear photo. Check out his Facebook page @
